The Bee Ridge Christian Church is in Clay County. Some credit it with being
the first church in Clay County. Others say it was the first church in the
Northern part of Clay County.
William Yocum is credited by many as the man who founded the church in the
1830s.
The older church records of burials were destroyed in a fire. I believe the
year was 1928. I'm not certain of that, so you'd probably want to check with
either the pastor or the trustee for the cemetary.
I believe this is the number: 812 442 0481. If that number is for some
other church, you can always call the Mayor. He'll be happy to give you the
number.
Mayor Crabb's office at 812-443-2221.
I needed to find out how far their burial records went as well. The mayor,
the minister for the church, and their trustee were all congenial and helpful.
The only problem was the records I was interested in had been destroyed by
fire.
Check it out, though. I don't remember what the year the fire was - so they
might have something on your family member.
