Marybeth, I don't know if this will help you. My grandfather, Joseph Keelor,
was also a coalminer, who also lived in Terre Haute, Dick Johnson Township.
I have a receipt where he paid his union dues of $1.00 for may and June
1920 to Ruben Dowen Finley, (I believe, can't be sure of the spelling its
hard to read.) of local union # 2646 U.M.W.of A. dated June 14 1920. I know
he lived in Terere Haute as early as 1900, because he married my grandmother
in that year in Terre Haute. I don't know which mine he worked in either. I
don't know if this Union would have any records of Mr. Wilson . I imagine
the union still exists. Its probably the United Mine Workers of America.
Good Luck.

Subject: Coal Miners
Hi again,
Can someone point me in the right direction for finding information on
coal
miners? My William WILSON was a coal miner. I don't have any
idea what
mine(s) he worked at. He lived in Dick Johnson Township in 1900 & 1910.
In
1920 shows up in Vermillion County. He died in Terre Haute in 1928.
His
obit says he was president of Miners' District No. 8 for five years and an
international board member for three years.
Thanks for your help.
