Hello Kim: You may be right about first generation "same" HARRIS
families, but I'm pretty sure that in the 3rd or 4th ring out, we are
related. The big split with the GERMAN HARRIS family took place about
the time of the Civil War (1860s) when my GGgrandfather George and his
brother Jacob got married to their wives. George died as result of the CW
but had time to produce 3 sons. (His widow went on to marry twice more
and stayed in the Odon area for awhile but finally moved to Indy with one
of her sons, DAVID ( my GGrandfather) In the meantime Jacob had 12 kids
who ended up in Green/Daviess/Owen/Clay and Vigo counties. S----o, While
George and Jacob shared the same 3rd generation GERMAN father (their
mother could barely speak or write English and as a matter of fact,
nether could George or David's mother), because of the breadth of this
family by the late 1800s, I feel as though we may be part of the same
family. About I year ago I found another cousin who had grown up in Terre
Haute and didn't even know her roots were GERMAN. (Leipzig). Any way,I
suspect that our HARRIS' may connect back with George & Jacob's marriages
and their father John Henry HARRIS. As a further note (and you probably
already know this, the HARRIS original name boiled up out of France about
the time of Charlemagne and split into the English branch, the branch
that stayed in France and the smaller branch that found its way to
Germany) That's the HARRIS' where our roots are. (Mine anyway, but I
suspect yours) Forgive me for the "ton" of info, so I'll leave the next
step of alignment up to you. What do you have that might help us with
names, etc., or events? Anxious to hear...FRED
