Hi All:
Abraham Stark's granddaughter Eliza Chastain married Nathan Stout in Washington County
in 1843, and they moved to Lewis Township in Clay County before 1850. I am still
researching this family group and have not personally researched or verified these lines
earlier than that. There are some good resources for both Stark and Chastain.
The Pierre Chastain Family Association (
http://www.pierrechastain.com) (seems to be down
right now -- you might google it) has a wealth of knowledge on the Chastain family,
including several published volumes and a staff genealogist.
Don C. Neal has written a very readable family history that includes the Starks and the
Chastains, and it is well worth looking at.

I do not know what happened to Rebecca (Stark) Chastain after the 1880 census, where she
is listed in the household of her son-in-law Nathan Stout. Nathan Stout, by then a
widower, moved to Chautauqua County Kansas after the census to be near his son George W.
Stout, and died there in 1888.
I have been looking at all the Stout families in Clay County and have determined that
there are at least two, possibly three related clusters. One of these is clustered around
William Stout who was a Baptist minister from Virginia, via Spencer County, Ky. Another
seems to be clustered around Jonathan Stout, also born in VA, and came through KY and then
Washington County, and arrived in Lewis Twp shortly after 1850. I believe Nathan, David
Stout who married Henrietta Armstrong, Catherine Stout who married William Crichfield, and
Rebecca Stout who married George W Chastain are in this cluster.
