Joe -
I'm afraid Elder Woods will not help you identify one particular church. I
know Elders go as far back as Scotland in the 1600s and the Presbyterian
Church, but they were not Presbyterians exclusively. All the way to present
day, Elders and Deacons are the governing bodies of many chruches. I guess
one would usually think of Amish, Quakers, and Mennonites when the think of
the term Elder and there were a lot of Quakers in the area. Maybe the CCGS
has something that could help?

Subject: [INCLAY] Inquiry
Can anyone tell me what religious denomination would have
"Elders" , which
I presume is another word for minister or pastor ect.
I'm trying to locate what church in Clay County my great
grandfater was
married in., and if the church is still in existance.
His pension file indicates he was married by Elder Woods in 1867.
Any help would be appreciated.
Joe.
