Subject: [INCLAY] Jacob and Elizabeth Bell Family
Hello! Just posting in case any new had joined that are interested
in
Bells
in Clay County. I've traced Nancy Bell (who married Solomon
Leslie) and
her
brother Hugh Bell to Jacob and Elizabeth Bell. Here's what I
know:
Jacob Bell was born about 1795 in Ohio and Elizabeth was born about 1800
in
Ohio. They can be found in the 1840 and 1850 census in Van Buren
Township,
Clay County. Elizabeth died between JUN 1850 and NOV 1852. Jacob
remarried
to Nancy Roberts in NOV of 1852 in Clay County. Jacob and Nancy can
be
found in the 1860 and 1870 US Census, still in Van Buren Township. The
census was taken 15 JUL 1870 and he passed away some time after that.
When I search for Jacob Bell before 1840 I am unsure which one is him.
There are two in Indiana and three in Ohio. I have been able to eliminate
two of the three Ohio Jacob Bells as possibilities from looking at later
census data for those families. The Johnson County, Indiana Jacob Bell is
a
possibility age wise. The Wayne County Jacob Bell is quite
interesting -
apparently no one is living on the property, not even he himself!
Neither
the Wayne County or Johnson County Jacob Bell is to be found in the
1840
or
the 1850 census, and therefore I can not eliminate them as
possibilities.
So, we're down to a possible Jacob Bell in Wayne County (IN), Johnson
County
(IN) and Clinton County (OH).
John and Elizabeth had the following children (may be more I have yet to
discover):
1. Hugh Bell, born 08 JAN 1818 in Ohio or Indiana (conflicting data) -
married Susan Leslie. He died in 1845 is buried at Pell North Cemetery
and
she died in 1897 and is buried at Calcutta Cemetery.
2. Nancy Bell, born about 1820 in Ohio - married Solomon Leslie. Her
death
date burial place is unknown. He died 1863 and is buried at Pell
North
Cemetery.
3. Mary Bell, born about 1830 in Ohio - no more information known about
her
(though there are marriage records in Clay and Vigo Counties for a
Mary
Bell, none of them matches up age wise when you find the married couple in
the census).
4. Isaac Bell, born about 1836 in Indiana - no more information known
about
him for sure. There is an Isaac Bell living in Clay County in the
1860
married to a Curlinda - but this Isaac is about 4 years older per census
than the Isaac living with his parents in 1850.
5. Henry Bell, born 27 JUL 1836 in Indiana - married Penelope Roberts in
Clay County. He died in 1909 and is buried at the Calcutta Cemetery. Her
death date is unknown.
If anyone is interested in this family, please contact me. Thank you for
your time and consideration.
