Hi Pat,
Ok, I understand now. You have records from the Clay Co., IN tract book and then there are
also records from the blm website. I think I can explain it better.
Tract book: George Lucas, 05 Oct 1832 - SW 1/4 SW 1/4 Sec 1 T12N R6W Jackson twp
blm website: George Lucas, 9 Oct 1835, SW 1/4 SW 1/4 Sec 1 T12N R6W Jackson twp
So basically, the 1832 date was probably when George Lucas applied for the land patent
(usually the "entered on" date); and the 1835 date was when it was actually
"issued" or "granted on". He was probably already living on the land
by 1832, as they usually lived on it before applying for the patent on it. However, might
have been different in IN, not sure. But that's the norm.
Land was always "entered" first with an "entry no.", then
"issued" with a "grant no." It seems the blm records give the
"issued" date.
Does this help?
