Yes, some births were recorded in the newspapers. The Clay County
Genealogical Society has invested in many newspapers. Email them at
_research(a)ccgsilib.org_ (mailto:research@ccgsilib.org) . Be sure you put Research in the
subject
line. If they have the newspaper for the ear you want, they will do a search
for you if you have a date. There is a fee payable in advance. There is
always a chance the person you are looking for has a date established some other
way in their Family Files.
There are no court records except Deeds for Clay County prior to November
30, 1851. The Court House in Bowling Green burned while some prisoners escaped
from the jail which was in the same building. It really makes it hard to
prove marriages prior to that date, although a few people went back to the
Courthouse and reported the dates of their marriage.
