Do you happen to have anything more on other descendents of Presley Owen? My
husband is descended from Presley Faris OWEN (b. 1857).

Subject: [INCLAY] Captain Joshua Wilbur Owen
Capt. Joshua Owen, a Bushwhacker leader, was one of six boys of
Presley and Elizabeth Owen. According to Clay Co. history, two boys
joined the Union, two joined the Confederacy and two joined the
Bushwhackers. Some of the family say that Joshua was a Captain in the
Confederacy.
In any case Joshua was killed as a Bushwhacker shortly after the
Civil War in Stone Co. MO. He was hung on a tree and no one ever
buried the body according to Elias Cooprider and Elijah Church who
went down in Missouri after the war, came back to Clay Co. and told the
story.
Joshua's wife Elizabeth Catherine Sondles married William Cowan
shortly after the death of Joshua. They had three children in Taney
Co. MO. Elizabeth is found in 1850 Census in Owen Co. IN, 1860 Census
Stone Co. MO, 1870 Census Taney Co. MO (wife of Cowan) 1880 Census
Brown Co. TX and in 1910 she is still in Brown Co. TX as the wife of
Joseph Bennett.
Alfred R. Watkins b. 3 Mar 1864 married Mary Elizabeth Owen,
daughter of Joshua and Elizabeth Owen. So he is in the household of
his mother-in-law as you noted. Another daughter of Joshua and
Elizabeth, Jemima Ellen Owen married John C. Elvance Cowan.
