Don,
I can't come up with any other facts that would be of help. It does look
like perhaps your John might be related to the Isaac who is in the same
county in IN in 1840. And since John has a son who was born in IN and the
John that appears there has several children, it looks like a possible
match. I can't seem to find him anywhere in 1850 either.
Good luck in your search.
Susan

Subject: Re: [INCLAY] 1850 Census
Thank you so much Susan. I think I have looked at all these
and can't seem to match my GGGGF John OTT. He was born ca. 1814, in
Kentucky, probably Rockcastle County. He is shown in the 1840 Clay
County Census, they have several extra children living with them, I
think they were Sarah Owen, his wife's siblings. Her father was
Jonathan Owen, who along with his wife Levicy (several spellings)
Taylor, both died ca. 1837 and are buried in Greenwell Cem. near Clay City.
I believe that my John Ott is shown living in the home of
Isaac Ott in Clay County, for the 1830 Census, but do not think he is
their son.
My John Ott, totally missing for 1850, shows in the 1860
Marion County Arkansas, Census. He died during the Civil War in Marion Co.
AR.
I think he might be a nephew of Isaac Ott, shown in 1830
Clay Co. Census, but have not been able to prove that.
The Otts living in Vermillion County in 1850, I believe is
the family that raised my John Ott. But as you note they also have a
son named John, born KY, that is the main reason I do not believe
that my John is their son. My John was married about 1835, raised a
bunch of kids that were not their own and then started having
children before moving to Arkansas. We believe that child 8, John
Junior, born ca. 1854, was born in Missouri on the way to Arkansas.
Their last child was born after they arrived in Arkansas. Child 7,
born 27 Dec 1853 was supposed to have been born in Clay Co. IN.
Any insight you have greatly appreciated.

Subject: [INCLAY] 1850 Census
Since I have not been able to locate my John Ott Family in the
1850 Clay County Census, I have looked at it closely. I have some
question that experts may be able to help with.
Column 3 "The name of every person whose usual place of abode on the
first day of June, 1850, was in this family."
Now, what about folks who have joined the family since 1 Jun
1850 (Census was taken mid-September 1850). And what about those folks
who have left the household since 1 June 1850, should they still be
listed?
