I've had a lot of good luck researching my family in Clay County through the Clay County Health Department. But I'm at the point of trying to find birth records for my 2nd and 3rd great grandfathers that were born before 1882 in Clay County. The health dept says they only have records 1882 and beyond. Any ideas on where I could find this information?

Carleton was the older brother to John Mills and Noah. He was born about 1786 NY and died in Clay Co. IN 1849. Their father was Joel Bateman.
Yes, Carleton was in the War of 1812, and faught in the Battle of New Orleans. He came back and married a Sarah Cooksey in Franklin Co in 1819. They had at least 5 daughters and where divorced. Carleton move to Clay Co. IN and had a grist mill. He married again to a Margaret Prickett. They had three children. I have never been able to make contact with any of Carleton children. The following is a note I had on him;
NOTE: 1839 Bought land in Clay County, Indiana and operated a grist mill called Stump Mill, on Eel River. Brother Noah had a grist mill on Eel River also farther upstream in North Salam, IN.
DEATH: 1849 Estate in Probate Court, in Clay County, Indiana

I believe I know just a very small bit about Ira. He was teaching English in Greybull, Wyoming in 1966. From there, he went to Sheridan, Wyoming, for a bit, and then to Montana--Absaroka, if I recollect, or perhaps Poplar.
His former wife was Margaret and he had a daughter named Janie. He never remarried.
