Hi LeeAnn,
I see someone suggested checking with the Brazil Chamber which is a good
idea. I have a contact at CCGS and I'll also send her an e-mail to see if
she would happen to know anything.
I hope I haven't given any misinformation. I can sure understand your
concern. I just passed on the comments of the person who went to Brazil and
checked for me. Maybe we will be lucky and that won't be true.
Again, I'll get back to you and I'll keep your name this time.
Sharon

I was checking for someone regarding the Clay County Museum in Brazil. I
apologize that particular e-mail got deleted in my files so I don't have a
name of who was asking.
I had a cousin who lives near Brazil check it out. She said it's the museum
where the old post office was. 'The door said 'CLOSED, NO TRESPASSING.'
There are no hours or any other information'. She believes they are closed
for good.
I don't know if this helps but it is some information.
Sharon Brush
I would think you should check with the Brazil Chamber of Commerce on this one. r

Thank you for checking Sharon. My eyes are almost popped out at this response. They had a loom hand made by my ancestor in their basement. I wonder what will happen to it and all the other treasures contained within it's walls!

Dear Karen,
You may have hit the nail on the head for me!I have the info on Jacob, he is a sibling, and you are right on him. BUT Mary has always been a mystery - and I didn't have records for Edgar Co, IL. I bet that is her! her parents, John H. and Marchessa disappreared after 1870 Edgar Co, IL, they possible could have died in Edgar Co, although their entire family had moved to Clay Co,or Vigo Co. From obits I have deducted that John H., wife, and Daughters Mary and
Dtr. Sydney were all dead before 1914. Thanks for a new lead to chase, I'll find her death. Thank you a bunch!

Hello Rachelle. Thanks for writing. The name I am going there after is one Reuben Allard. He died 1852 and is buried there, per indexes put together by the CCGS. I have been to CCGS several times, and I know their hours. In the old post office in Brazil, Indiana is where the Clay County Historical Society Museum is and that's what I am interested in. I believe they are only open one day a week and for a few hours on that day. Since I'll only be in the area for three days to visit family, I want to make sure I am not sitting in the parking lot waiting for them to open when I could spend time with family I only get to see a few times a year. I believe it's Saturdays they are open, but honestly my memory may be faulty and that's why I was hoping someone here knew that information. Thanks again for writing and if Reuben Allard looks familiar to you, let me know :).

May I ask what name you are researching for at Old Hill. I know I have
walked that cemetery before. I know there hours are unique, but I do think if
you call ahead they make open if they are closed for you. Hope this was

Hello all,
I will be heading back to Clay County, Indiana on May 16th. I have tried getting a hold of the Clay County Historical Society Museum to see when they are open. Subject: [INCLAY] Old Hill Cemetery & The Clay County Historical Society Museum
Hello all,
I will be heading back to Clay County, Indiana on May 16th. I have tried getting a hold of the Clay County Historical Society Museum to see when they are open. Their answering machine gives no information and I haven't received a call back. They also don't appear to have a webpage on the internet. Does anyone remember when they are open? I know it is not often, but I need to get into their coal mining room to do some research.
Also, I will be visiting Old Hill Cemetery (if I can find it, I hear it's on 340 west of Brazil, I hope this is correct). I remember someone posting a requeset for images of gravestones for the cemetery. So, to that individual or individuals, please resend names with dates and I'll see if I can find them. Please only send names you know are located at that cemetery (via cemetery indexes, the CCGS Library in Center Point, etc.)
I hope everyone is well.
