Hello Carol: I have not been able to trace totally my Smith lines. I know
that they were in Kentucky before Indiana but have found a William Wilkison
Smith posting surety for a marriage in Orange County North Carolina. I will
have to find my notes to find that information though. I also know that in
this same book on Orange County there are Spoons listed. This William in the
census is listed as being from England and Catherine Spoon is listed from
Germany or Bavaria. So North Carolina is not out of sight as being a place that
the Smith's also lived and maybe married. John Wilkerson Smith and Anthony
Smith were born in Kentucky again according to census. Hanna Sparks also from
Kentucky and was in Sullivan County before Vigo. Think William Smith was
also in Lawrence County for a time before Vigo. The Smith's owned much land in
Prairieton and Prairie Creek. I know that the Stark family was connected to
the Prairie Creek Baptist Church. Anthony Smith and Hanna Sparks were
married in Vigo County in March 23, 1831. They are buried at the 2nd. Prairie Creek
Church Cemetery and died January 22, 1852 and Hanna died May 29, 1850 both
at age 41 years. At the moment I don't have anything more on the Sparks
family. Does any of this match any more of what you have? I have the deaths of
your Sparks on the same page as my Hanna and Anthony but Hanna was born in
1809 in Kentucky. I know that they were all buried in what is called the Smith
Cemetery and I would assume that they are all related. If you have more
information on the North Carolina and Kentucky families I would be interested so
I can maybe do more research and maybe make a connection. Thanks for your
time.

Good luck on your search!

Dear List, I am seeking connections to Demas D. Britton who was born on 2-26-1839 in Terre Haute, IN. Around 1855 he came to Clay Co. In 1861 he enlisted in the 10th IN Vol. Infantry Co. D and in 1862 he re-enlisted in the 11th IN Vol. Infantry Company D. He married Coatney A. Pate on 10-16-1866 in Clay Co., IN. She was the daughter of Binum W. Pate and Lucy (Broyles) Pate. Demas and Coatney moved to Allen Co., KS and had 5 children - Catherine, John, Ada, Bianca and Bertha.
Coatney is my great grandmother's sister.
My other IN surnames are Pate, Smith and Tilley.
Thanks!
Carol

I am wondering if you have anything on an Alexander McElree. He was my husband's gr gr grandfather's father. He died in Scott Township, Brown County, Ohio abt. 1847. He was the father of Ab (James Abner) Michaelree whose wife is listed in the Obit. I have had a great deal of trouble trying to find out who Alexander's parents were. Would appreciate any help you may have.
Thanks,
Joan

Some of William and Tirzah (Shattuck) Tiffey's descendants appear in Beatrix Marie Larson's Shattuck Memorials No. II (Richland Center, WI Richland County Publishers, INC., 1977).
We added them to our Shattuck database a few years ago which can be seen at:
http://worldconnect.rootsweb.com/cgi-bin/igm.cgi?op=REG&db=rckline-shattu...
If anyone is interested in what few notes Beatrix Larson had, the few I have recently added, and the names of the six persons born after 1912, contact me directly for a PDF file.
I would like to add William's parents if I anyone has a reasonably reliable source. Is his grandfather Berryman Tiffee born about 1788?
