I am new to the Clay Co. IN mailing list-----
I would like to make contact with anyone researching the following families
who were enumerated in the 1900 census for Harrison township, Clay county,
IN -----------------------
1900 census
Joel (maybe Joseph) WHITE born about 1848
family: wife: Belle
Children: Rilla age 8
Olive age 6
Ralph age 3
Rolla age 2
Claud age 1
and also in the 1900 census for Harrison twp, Clay Co. IN was----
Vermilia BLAIR age 54
who was residing with her daughter, Mary born 1875, and Mary's
husband, George Pierce
-Vermilia / Vernilia? also had a daughter Martha who was born in 1870.
-Vermilia was married 1st to John WILKINS, then by 1880 to Joeseph BLAIR
-I believe that Joel (Joseph) and Vermilia may be brother and sister, --the
children of William and Martha WHITE, who lived in Sullivan County,
in 1880 census, but may also have moved over to Clay Co.
IN
thank you, Ellen

Both of those cemeteries are near Poland. Cagle is on the north side of St
Rd 42 about a mile west of the town. It sits back in a field and isn't marked
at the road. I don't know where Dyar is, but I bet someone in town can help
you. The cemeteries have been walked and the records are in the Genealogy
Library in Center Point. It is on the main street there. THe library is open
1:00 to 4:00 on Saturday. There is a great deal of material there to work with.
What Cagle are you interested in researching?
Mary Gardner
I don't know where any of those are. sorry

Am not researching this line, just trying to be helpful. Mary A Dowen married Owen Wilson in Clay county on 8 Apr 1908, source is book 14, page 503. In the 1900 census for Clay county there was a Mary Dowen, age 17, living with her family headed by her father Jesse Dowen. Hope this helps. Don
The genealogy Library is open 1:00 to 4:00 PM on Monday, Wednesday and
Saturday. They have an index to all the tombstones in Clay County. Cemetery Books
are available for most of the County. Van Buren and Washington townships have
not been printed, but there are records of the tombstones in those counties.
Mary

Does anyone know anything about the Jesse Dowen family? I know that he is somehow related to me on my dad's side (Wilson) but we only know his name.
Thank you, Mark. I have printed out these directions, and am going to beg
if I have to, to get someone to take me out there. Charlene

Can anyone tell me how to get to Neidlinger cemetery from Terre Haute. Also directions to Union Cemetery. I believe there are two Union Cemeteries (in Jackson and Lewis Twsp), so directions to both would be helpful. I will be visiting Terre Haute this weekend for a wedding and the Covered Bridge Fest and hope to also get to these cemeteries. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
Charlene
