In 1875, Michael Sappenfield married Lavina Dalton in Clay Co. I believe
Lavina was the widow of Robert Dalton. Is there any record of them in the
1880 census? Lavina should be about 40-42 years of age.

Lori,
Yes, Wilson Church is still Baptist.
This has come back twice. So, I'm sending it online. Don't know what I'm

Does anyone know where I can locate information (membership rosters,
activities.....) on Wilson 's Church that used to be located in southern
Lewis Township? It was a Baptist Church. Did it merge with another
congregation? disband?
Thanks,

Ben, where did you find the marriage to Mary Meacham? I think she might have married Allen in Arkansas. There is evidence to prove the Mary Cole marriage. Of course, no marriage records exist for Clay County before Nov. 30, 1850 and deed records show Allen Cole's wife as Mary Cole. If he did marry Mary Meacham, I need the documentation. I am having to redo my family tree after a computer crash cost me over 1000 of my family records. My gg grandmother was Nancy Comer. Mary
Lou,
I can no longer prove Mary Meacham! I lost my hard drive sometime back so I
was working from memory, which could be wrong. I will take a look and see
what I can find for it is important to prove everything.

Karen, I apologize! Mary Meacham is NOT in my database. Lou Pero saw my error and reminded me Mathew's first wife was Rebecca Marshal who he married in Randolph Co., NC in 1825 and Sarah Saulsberry in 1852 in Owen Co., IN. Those two I do have in my database. Lou advised there was a third between the two, Sarah Downs, whose first husband was George Luther. Again, I am sorry for giving you incorrect information. If you find Mary Meacham please let me know where she did fit. Mary

Now I have to ask what is the source of this information?I have that
Matthew's first wife as Rebecca Marshall, married 28 Oct. 1825 in Randolph
County, North Carolina. Putting all the census and land record information
together, I believe he married second Sarah Downs whose first husband was
George Luther, and third, on 5 Feb. 1852, Susan Saulsbury.
I don't have a Mary Meacham in my database, but I would like to know any
record that shows she ought to be there.
Hi! I am trying to find info for Mary (maiden name unk) Walker b approx
1796/she was 54 in the 1850 Posey Twp, Clay Co, IN census. She was prob b in
TN or KY. In this 1850 census she is living with her dau Lydia, b 1830 Clay
Co, IN, Lydia's husband, Ebenezer Gilbert b 1825 OH and their small dau
Almira Gilbert age 2 months. In the 1840 census, Mary was listed as head of
household.
In 1860, Ebenezer, Lydia and their children are living in Edgar Co, IL.
Mary is not with them.
I am looking for anyone that is researching this family or has any info,
access to, or suggestions of where to look to find the following
information: husband's name & what happened to him or when, parents'&
siblings' names along with any other children she had besides Lydia. I have
never found Mary in a census after 1850 so I'm assuming that probably she
died between 1850 and 1860. Would also be interested in anything pertaining
to her death, the date, place of burial. Anything would be appreciated. I
have been stumped by her for a long time. The info I have given above is
all I have been able find on her so far. There were several Walker's listed
in Edgar Co, IL, but I have not been able to determine if any of them are
Lydia's brothers or uncles etc.
Thank you so very much for any information or suggestions anyone can give me
on my elusive Mary ? Walker.

You sure can! They will place them in the appropriate folder. Are there any
coal miners or mines in your clippings? If so, sort them and ask the
volunteer to save them for me. Sorry I won't get to meet you next week. It
will be early July before I get back to the library.

Hi, Mary.
Thank you for forwarding my e-mail address to Pat. Yes, I have been in
internet communication with her a couple of times since then. Pat also
knows Betty Adams, descendant of my Jacob Cole junior's brother, Michael
Cole.
I look forward to meeting them both in Center Point next week.
By the way, when I leave some family group records at the genealogy
library in the Cole file, can I leave pictures and newspaper clippings
of Clay County natives?. I have a 50th wedding anniversary newspaper
clipping with picture of James Franklin Cole and wife Elizabeth Frances
Holt Cole. James was born in Poland, Clay County, IN on 22 March 1866-
son of Jacob Cole junior and Mary Jane Crafton.

Hello Karen, Allen Comer had a brother named Mathew who married Mary Meacham before he came to Clay/Owen County. Mathew's second wife was a Solsberry and he was still alive in Owen County in 1858 when her father's estate was being probated. As far as I know, no children were fathered by this Mathew.
Mathew Raiford was Allen's son. Allen's wife was Mary Cole, daughter of William Cole. I believe her mother was a Luther. I can check the Clay County History for I believe there is an article about William Cole in there. My gg grandmother was William's second wife. Mary

Actually, it is quite possible that he did marry twice. However, I don't think you can just make that assumption without citing some reason for the possibility.
Here is something from my notes which indicates his wife in 1835 was Mary Cole.
Although the estate records for Clay County were destroyed, all of William Cole's children are named as they transferred their interest in their father's land to their brother, Matthew, recorded in the land records. The land in question was that which William patented in 1830. Children listed were:
--Allen Comer and wife Mary and John Cole, dated 24 December 1842, recorded 18 February 1843, Book E page 432.
--James and Zilpha Cole, dated 15 September 1841, recorded 13 Sep 1842, Book E p 327.
--Robert and Sarah Thorlton, dated 13 Aug 1842, recorded 13 Sep 1842 Book E p 239.
--William and Elizabeth Cole, dated 15 Sep 1841, recorded 14 Sep 1842, Book E p 330.
--Elizabeth Kitchen formerly Walker of Morgan Co, IN, dated 30 Aug 1850, rec 6 Sep 1850, Book H p 472. since her husband is not named, was he also dead?
--Samuel and Rachel Lewis, dated 1 Jun 1844, rec 17 Oct 1844, Book F p 159. They were living in Independence Co, AR.
Note that this William would be Mary Cole's father. Mary Cole Comer is said to have died in Independence Co, AR in 1857. In order to establish two wives, you would need to give the source of the name Meachum. Also, you would need to cite some actual evidence. If the evidence is just that someone said it was so, you might want to look at that again.

Mary, I keep finding conflicting info about the last name of Allen Barbee Comer's wife. In various information that I have Received her name is given as Mary Meacham or as Mary Cole. I haven't been able to find his marriage in the Quaker records, but it certainly should be in the Clay Co Indiana area. Have you seen anything that makes you feel strongly one way or the other. The info passed down to me is an old typed paper listing Mary Meacham as his wife. Other sources tell me that the name Cole is given as Mother's maiden name on Death Certificate of Amos Comer who died in Prosser WA in the 1920's. Also a will in Indiana for William Cole lists Mary as his daughter. Any suggestions?

My ancestor Allen Barbee Comer is said in conflicting reports to have married in Clay County Indiana either a Mary Meacham or a Mary Cole daughter of William Cole and Nancy Luther. This would have been around 1830. I'm wondering if he might have been married two times to two different women named Mary. Do you possibly have anything on this connection? Thanks for taking the time.
