David,
I just checked Indiana 1910 Index and there's no Joseph Sanderson. Only
Sanderson born in Scotland is a Robert N., age 65, in Steuben County; he
apparently has a son, Robert N., age 25, also in Steuben County. I don't
have those images, but if you think they might be related, the Sr. Robert is
at M614-380, Pt 2, Pg 56. It's Steuben County, Millgrove Twp. The younger
one is on page 53.

I think that Hoosierville is south of Brazil on St Rd 59. If you are driving,
you can't miss this small area! There are Mobil Home sales on both sides of
the cross road there. There is a cemetery east a mile or 2. Contact the
Genealogy Library for specific information. They have copied all the
tombstones in Clay County and for $10 they will do a search for you. I am in
favor of free genealogy, but when I can't find someone who can help me, I
look to the professionals. I need to buy my own copies of the cemetery
books! Decatur, Ga is just to far to do a look up.
Mary
Hello Betty,
There is a Family File in the CCGS Library in Center Point with some
information about the Ell family I don't know what is in it, but I did see a
file. The library is open Monday, Wednesday, and Saturday 1 to 4 P.M.

Hi Everyone:
I am new on this list. It is sure wonderful to have all these lists.
I have met so many good people on them.
I was wondering if anyone had any information on:
Johann Adam Ell
He was born in Oberulsenbach,Neustadt Bv. Germany on 20 May 1814.
He married a Anna Margaretha STRENG on 30 May 1835.
HE DIED IN CLAY COUNTY, IN on 13 Aug 1893.
I was wondering if anyone had any information on him and his
ancestors.
My family of Ell arrived in Union County, Ohio about 1836 or so. I
have no information on Johann Adam, but have information on some of
his brothers and sisters.
I am now a member of the Pioneers Club in Union County, Ohio. I have
showed by documentation that they were early pioneers in that county
since they arrived before 1840.
His father was Georg Adam Ell and his mother was Catharina Pfander.
George Adam Ell is my 3rd Great Grandfather.
Thanks for your help.

The book FROM NEEDMORE TO PROSPERITY: HOOSIER PLACE NAMES IN FOLKLORE AND
HISTORY by Ronald L. Baker says the following:
"Hoosierville" (Clay) this village was laid out in 1871 and so named for
its location in the Hoosier state. A post office was established on June
24, 1874; closed on January 31, 1902. Variant names are Wittigton and
Wittington."
you are saying knightstown and they are asking about Knightsville.

Hi Mary Lou...
My McCullough's do not appear to be related to the TN McCullough's. Miles was born in Ashtabula, OH to Irish parents. I still have not been able to distinguish which are his parents. He relocated to Mercer Co, PA where he married Mary Fritz whose parents were from Baden, Germany. After their marriage, Miles and Mary moved to Clay IN. 4 children were born in PA. Laura was the last child born in PA in 1868. By 1870 they were listed in the Clay Co census in Posey township. I'm pretty sure there is no connection to your McCullough's. Good luck...

Hello Jim,
I am related to Wm & Levina Myers McCullough who came to Putnam Co., IN from Greene/Hawkins Co., TN in about 1828. This couple had 16 children and many of their descendents settled in Putnam & Clay County, IN. Do you know the parents and/or grandparents for Miles McCullough? We perhaps may connect with this McCullough line.

Thanks to the replies. I think I know where it is now. I've been to the cemetery on Airport Road near there but didn't know it was Hoosierville. There are a few of my McCulloughs buried there.

Hoosierville is hard to find on any map. It is a very small "wide spot"
in the road these days. if you were in Brazil and started south on Road
59, the road is about the 3rd mile south of Brazil. The road has a
number, which I don't remember, but it is called the Airport Road. There
is a small Clay County Airport on this road and a sign on Road 59,
pointing towards the airport.
Just as you turn east on the Airport Road from Road 59, Hoosierville is
a very small burg on the left of the Airport Road. If you were to
continue another mile or two east you would find the old Union Chapel and
Union Cemetery on this same road. The cemetery is about half way between
Hoosierville and Asherville.
(The old Union Chapel has some other kind of church in it now, I don't
know what.) Many of my ancestors lived in that area of Jackson Township
and are buried at the Union Cemetery.
You memtioned Miles McCullough. I think he would be some kind of cousin
to me also. I am descended from Michael Myers, brother of Lavina Myers
who married William McCullough. Our common relative would be the parents
of Michael and Lavina Myers, another Michael Myers and Nancy West.
I guess I should mention, if you come across I-70 and get off at the
Brazil Exit, Road 59, the Airport Road is just a little more than a mile
north of I-70, in other words, it is between Brazil and I-70. Hope this
helps.
Sincerely,
Harold "Wayne" Green

The Program: The Indiana Soldiers' and Sailors' Children's Home, in Knightstown,

for children of veterans two years later. In 1929 the Home's mission was refocused to
provide a residential education program for at-risk children ages 3 to 18. There are
currently 120 youth from Indiana cities living and learning at the Home. Recently an

environmental trail. They wound up building much more.
