Hi Bill,
It's me again!
I read somewhere that Benjamin Coppock left his home in Ohio at age eleven
to come live in Indiana with his half brother, Thomas Coppock Neal. It was
a history of Clay County, but I don't remember which one. I think it was
in the Vigo County Libraru.
I don't know if Benjamin was affiliated with the Quaker church. I know
the Coppocks, Duncans and Neals were. My great grandfather, John Neal, and
his younger brother, Malhon Neal, did not become members of the Quakers
Sect. because they married out of the church. I can bet that their
brother, Thomas Coppock Neal follow his brothers' examples. Probably
Benjamin did also.
I don't think Benjamin's father came to Indiana. His mother, Mary Ann
Duncan, Neal, Coppock, did. She lived with her son, John Neal. She's
buried at Old Union Cemetery under her maiden name, Duncan.
Bill, here's another kick in the head. Thomas C. Neal married a Mary
Mattox. (I just looked it up in my Neal data.) I think Mary came from
Ohio with her husband, Thomas. It's in Blanchard under Henry B. Neal. I
imagine Thomas had died before the history was written or he couldn't
afford to be published.

Hi Bill,
Benjamin Coppock was a half brother to my great grandfather. His first
wife was Zeresh Elizabetha Puckett. Yes, he did marry Elizabetha Moyer. I
didn't know about wife number three (Mary Cutsew).
Benjamin and Zeresh are buried at Sanders Cemetery in Lewis Township, Clay
County.
I don't what happened to Elizabbetha Moyer. I can bet she died.
Benjamin's parents were Quakers, and didn't believe in divorce. When
loosing a spouse they usually waited two years before remarrying.
His mother, Mary Ann Duncan, Pemberton, Neal, Coppock was married three
times.
Do you suppose Elizabetha could have been buried beside James Mattox?

Hi, Sue,
Your probably don't remember me but we exchanged information several years ago and since then I have been plugging away on the Crews family and have accumulated close to 5,000 names of the descendants of James & Lucinda Hood Crews. I probably have a whole lot more on the Moss/Crews line than I had at the time we last talked and would be happy to exchanged what I have come across. Also, have accumlated a lot of pictures. If your address hasn't changed I will send you what I have. Also, would like additional information on your husbands side as well. And copies of any old photos that he or any member of his family would care to share.
Good to hear from you again.

I am Joe Brewer. I am from Pa. I have lived here all my life and so have my fathers and grandfathers. If you would like information about us, e-mail me.
Anyone have any information on Elizabeth MOYER? She married James MATTOX in 1837 in Vigo Co., IN. Shortly thereafter, they moved to Clay Co. After the death of James, she married Benjamin COPPOCK in Clay Co., in 1875 and they are listed as husband and wife in the 1880 Clay Co., census. In 1882, Benjamin married Mary Cutshaw. So either by death or divorce, the marriage to Elizabeth was dissolved between 1880 and 1882.

Don't know if u had access to some of historical Civil War stuff. I have been
doing a bit of research in this area relating to my genealogy. If u want
George W's military record u have to go up on the nara web site (national
archives) and have them send u form for requesting record, NATF Form 86 (by
the way it's the only way to bet the form). Also, it will cost u, I think
$17, u can ue credit card entry on form to let them charge u if they find and
send record. I didn't see a pension request for George so I assume he led a
full life after the war or was never married if he didn't, nor did he incur
service related wounds/disease to justify a widow or dep child pension. My
GGpa did - I gained tons of insight from the pension records because of his
condition - including copies of marriage certificates (my GGma remarrid in
1875 5 yrs after he died so both marriage certificates had to be submitted to
the pension board in 1888).
U can get a lot of info from state CW sites. I got the following infor about
GW Judd from my account on Ancestry.com (this is a for pay for most in depth
stuf - some access is no charge). You can also go on Familysearch.com (this
is the LDS site) and USGenweb at www.rootsweb.com for freebie access to tons
of info if it has been captured. Hope it helps to get you started. Regards
Don Sink in CA.

Regimental History
Sixth Cavalry
KENTUCKY
(3-YEARS)
Sixth Cavalry. -- Cols., Dennisi. Halisy, Louis D. Watkins,
Lieut.Cols., Reuben Munday, William . Roper, Majs., Lewis A.
Gratz, William H. Fidler, Walter F. Stafford.
The 1st battalion of this regiment Cos. A, B. C, D and E, was
organized at Lexington during the month of Oct., 1861, under
Mail Reuben Munday, and for a considerable time served
independently, being known as Munday's battalion.
It was mustered into service at Camp Irvine, near Louisville,
by Maj. W. H. Sidell, and was immediately assigned to the
division of the Army of the Ohio, commanded by Gen. George W.
Morgan. In Feb., 1862, that command made its way near to the
Cumberland gap and Munday's cavalry made an attack on the
enemy at the gap, inflicting loss and taking some prisoners.
Then, cooperating with Gen. Morgan's other forces, Cumberland
gap was taken in June.
From Cumberland gap the march was across the country and
Munday's battalion, after accompanying the infantry nearly to
the Ohio River was sent toward Richmond, reaching Big Hill and
Rogersville before the enemy, participated in the fighting at
those places, and materially aided in the retreat of
Metcalfe's 7th Ky. cavalry and other troops to Lexington,
thence to Louisville.
During the summer of 1862 the other battalions of the regiment
were organized in the central part of Kentucky under Col.
Halisy. In September, Cos. F, G, H, I, K, L and M were
nominally consolidated with Munday's battalion, thus making
the 6th cavalry. At that time the 1st battalion, under Maj.
Fidler, was sent to Leitchfield, Ky. and skirmished with the
cavalry of Bragg's army.
The 2nd battalion, under Col. Halisy, went to Bardstown and
there encountered Morgan's Confederate cavalry. The 3d, under
Maj. Gratz, went to Stanford and was instrumental in capturing
prisoners from Bragg's army. Thus the regiment in the first
part of its service operated by battalions and the 1st engaged
in a number of severe fights, among them Tazewell Tenn.,
Cumberland gap and Richmond.
At New Market a fight occurred in which Col. Halisy was
killed. On Jan. 30, 1863, the regiment was ordered to join
the Army of the Cumberland at Nashville. In March, about 6
miles from Brentwood, Gen. Green Clay Smith encountered a
large force and an engagement took place lasting an hour and a
half. Three charges were made on the 6th Ky. and 2nd Mich.,
but all were repulsed, when Gen. Smith, finding he was
outnumbered, fell back, taking what he had captured.
The regiment then aided in driving the enemy beyond Thompson's
station and in the month of April it marched from Brentwood to
Franklin, where it attacked some Texas troops capturing the
camp with its horses, wagons and 120 men. On June 4 it was at
Triune, whence, proceeding in a gallop with the 2nd Mich. it
reached Franklin in time to assist the 4th and 7th Ky. cavalry
and altogether succeeded in gaining a decided victory.
On July 5, Gen Sheridan sent Col. Watkins in the direction of
Stevenson, on a reconnoissance. He says in his report: "This
reconnaissance was very handsomely executed by Col. Watkins,
who drove the enemy about 3 miles, inflicting loss." Col.
Watkins, in his report, says he made a reconnoissance toward
University, where he encountered the enemy, losing Lieut.
William Murphy and 4 men killed, and Lieut. Kimbrough and 4
men wounded.
On Sept. 19 the regiment, with Col. Watkins' other regiments,
was desperately engaged at Crawfish springs, part of the
battle of Chickamauga. The regiment lost Lieut. Mead and 6
men killed 1 officer wounded, and 120 men wounded or missing.
In the first part of Jan., 1864, the regiment reenlisted at
Rossville,GA, and the men were granted 30 days furlough.
In the Atlanta campaign it was engaged in a severe fight at
Pigeon Mountain, Adairsville and Calhoun. On June 24
detachments of the 4th, 6th and 7th Ky. cavalry were at
Lafayette, GA, under Col. Watkins and were attacked by Gen.
Pillow with 2,000 men. Of the 6th, 4 men were killed and 6
wounded.
In November the regiment was ordered to Louisville, Ky., to
equip, and was in camp for a short time on the Bardstown road.
It afterward took part in Wilson's cavalry raid through
Alabama and in June returned to Nashville.
It then went into camp at Edgefield, where it was mustered out
July 14, 1865.

Looking for information on ELIZABETH WINTERS born 1830 and died 8 Jan 1911 in Ia., who married ALEXANDER POE on 18 Aug 1862 in Owen Co., Indiana. Any help appreciated.
Most adult teams in that era were considered semi-pro teams. There were many
in the Clay County area, including the one my grandfather managed in the late
1920's, which was the Cardonia Semi-pro baseball team. I tried finding team
records, etc. but was told there were too many teams and were all too
localized, no state records were kept. Local records were probably tossed
after the game.
Good-luck
