Vicki - I don't have a Lucy or any of the Kentucky line YET. I have talked to people and know we connect but I've got so many lines and so many contacts that I haven't been able to get it all together yet. Do you have any names for your Clay County, Indiana McQueary's? Please e-mail me:
KaSueMcQ(a)Yahoo.com
My great grandmother was Lucy McQueary from Kentucky. She married Richard Lyons who I believe went by the nickname, "Doc". I know very little about this side of my family. Does this tie in with anything anyone has?
well it may be because he Moved to Poplar Bluff Missouri.
It may not be the same George Lewis but he did live in Clay co when small
the family moved to one of the Dakota's then back to Indiana then on to
Missouri where they have a big big reunion almost every year around the
middle of June. I understand it is a two or three day affair... I have
been invited but never got to attend yet. George if it is the same one
wound up married twice and had something like nine children. He was
back in Clay co for a visit before 1990 but after 1980. just a short
visit.

My Great Grandfather George Franklin Lewis is said to have been quite a prominent man in the area (he eventually settled in Shelby county as a doctor) but his earlier trail is said to have been in Clay. My aunt wrote me that: "George Franklin Lewis resigned as postmaster of a small town in Clay County, Indiana at the age of thirty-five to go to medical school at a state university in Indiana. He was married and had three children at the time. He began his practice by making house calls in a horse-drawn-buggy. He later had the first automobile in the area and continuted to practice medicine until he was well past sixty years of age."... so why can't I find a thing about him? Mysterious.
Sorry bass103, that is all I have.

I missed the start of this. My ancestors were not in this company, but

There used to be a Primitive Baptist Church in Cass Township, Clay County,
Indiana.
There is an active one near Whitehall in Owen County and one in Putnam
County. The one in Putnam County is called Little Flock, I am not sure
about the other one.
I also remember one in Lawrence County near Bedford. It was called Guthrie
Creek. I don't know if it is still active or not.

There was another Baptist church named Little Flock Church, in Sullivan
County. It was organized in the 1820s or 1830s. I talked with a man from
California a few years ago who thought those churches were all part of the
same circuit. The Little Flock Cemetery is on US 41 at Shelburn.

Hello again,
I haven't posted this to the board, as I haven't found any information on
this person yet. I have been trying to use Ancestry.com's search feature to
locate pension application numbers in their Civil War Pension Index
database. Unfortunately, it appears that Ancestry's servers are overloaded
and I been able to get only some responses to my queries. I'm sorry to say
that I have been unable to find any answers, yet, on Modisitt. Hopefully,
I'll be able to check this as soon as Ancestry becomes available.
I am hoping that I will be able to learn the perspectives of these men
through their own words, which are found in their affidavits. I also am
hoping that I can defray some of the cost by linking up with other
researchers. Joshua Crabb is my ancestor. I have been fortunate to find a
pension file on him. The cost for his file at the archives was $10.00, and
there was quite a waiting period...it took several months to receive my
order.
Thanks for your response. I am hoping to catch Ancestry at a slow time
early this morning, and will get back to you soon.
