Beginning March 2nd, 2020 the Mailing Lists functionality on RootsWeb will be discontinued. Users will no longer be able to send outgoing emails or accept incoming emails. Additionally, administration tools will no longer be available to list administrators and mailing lists will be put into an archival state.
Administrators may save the emails in their list prior to March 2nd. After that, mailing list archives will remain available and searchable on RootsWeb
I know the area you are talking about. There used to be an old house up at
the top of the hill facing US 40. The Hulman golf course runs up against
that property now. and it does have a fence and a No Trespassing sign out in
front. That property lies just east of the Lost Creek Elementery School. If I
can find it, my Mom had a Map of Vigo County Cemeteries that the local
funeral homes helped publish 20 or 30 years ago. It may be in Terre Haute.
My mother said she had never heard of the Lost Creek Cemeteries and we
searched all over the area for it back in the 70's.

Mary, could that old cemetery be the one where the Counce Farm(sp?) used to
be? It is across from 84 lumber at the edge of Hulman property.(off of
Us40)
At the edge of the golf course, you have to take the road right across
from the 84 lumber back into the old farm and it is on the left at the top
of the hill. This is a real old cemetery, not used anymore. Probably full
of briars but I have no idea who is buried there. Muriel

The Hyde Cemetery is south of US40 on the Tabor Town Rd. Sorry I missed
your question. Tanners used to live on Tabor Town Rd. south, and you would
turn east there, and the cemetery is on the corner NE. Have you been
there?
Still can't figure out where this cemetery you are talking about. You
aren't mistaken about where it is are you? On private property?

Judy,
Thanks for the information. It is possible that this Joseph Baldwin is the
same one that I have in my line. The Joseph Baldwin I am working on had
several birthdates and 1859 was one of them. His birthday was September so
it is possible if the census was taken in June that this is the correct Joe
Baldwin.
Apparently there was no James B. Baldwin living with this family or other
Baldwin family in Clay County?
Thanks again for looking. I will keep your e-mail for further reference.

Thanks Laura, but the cemetery we are talking about is near Snake Hill on
US 40. I don't remember one there, but would sure like to find it.
The Clay Co line is near there before Cloverland.
Moses/Seelyville Cemetery is about 1 north of stoplight in Seelyville.
Yes, that is Vigo Co., IN. But in former days, both cemeteries would be
within traveling distance for people who lived in Clay Co line area..Some
families did not use the same cemetery all the time. I have family in all
the area cemeteries around Staunton and Cloverland, Seelyville, and many
others. Thanks again, but these old cemeteries are not on any listing.

The one East of Tabor Town Rd on US 40 interests me very much. Can you
give me any more information on it? I have relatives that lived in that
area, and died there, & still looking for a graveyard near the Clay Co., &
Vigo line. This one sounds like it could be worth looking into.
The one down Tabor Town Rd is this the one called Cheek Cemetery? They
tore up the drive to the cemetery to build a new house on it, and now has
no access road to the cemetery. The owner has put a gate & fence up and no
one can get to that cemetery. If there is another way, I sure would like
to know how. I have family buried in there in 1970's and would also like
to take pictures of tombstones there.
I was born and raised in this area, so know it well. I will be theo. re in
10 days. I want to find that cemetery near the Clay Co. line. Muriel

If this cemetery is where you are suggesting, I would think that it is in
Vigo County, not Clay, especially since you mentioned Seelyville.
I jumped into the Indiana State Library's Cemetery Locator database. Only
one cemetery retrieves under Lost Creek. Here is the info given:
VIGO COUNTY
LOST CREEK TWP
NW 1/4 SEC 3
12N8W
When did Samuel Lowe die? I have heard lots of historical information
about the African-American Lost Creek community east of Terre Haute. I
remember being out that way once, can't remember why, and seeing a
historical marker. Rarely have time or reason to get out to the more rural
areas of the county, so am not very familiar with most any direction outside
the city.
If this is not the cemetery you visited, you might want to search for a Vigo
County Rootsweb mailing list and post your query there. Or visit the Vigo
County Public Library's Special Collections Dept to do more genealogy research.

I would guess that your George was a Junior and that his father was George
David who went by his middle name. That is not uncommon among my Moore
family from Clay co. And Catherine is often shorten to Kate. I don't know if
you will find George's name written out but try the marriage records. I
don't know if Indiana's are still free on ancestry. If you have access the
the Family Tree Maker library they are there also.
Terri
Asked around and this is the answer I got about the Lost Creek Cemetery. I
believe that is also known as the Moses Cemetery. Will check further.
Know some other old timers in that area. As kids we called it "Seelyville
Cemetery".
However, I have been through that entire cemetery, it is small, and found
no grave for Samuel Lowe. Lots of Jones, Smiths, Hudsons, etc. There are a
lot of unmarked graves. I will go back and check further for any Lowes I
could have missed them.
This is not the answer that I thought I would find. I thought perhaps it
would have been near East Glenn or that vacinity. Perhaps a little North.

Hi,
Does anyone have the 1860 Clay County Census records?
I would like to know if there are any Baldwin families listed in Clay
County in 1860. I am especially interested in knowing whether there is a
Joseph Baldwin who would be approximately 2 years old listed. His siblings
would be:
James B. -- born in 1852 in IN
Mary --don't know when or where she was born.
Parents unknown other than father's birthplace KY and mother's birthplace VA
Thanks for any help anyone could give.

I'm looking for information regarding the parents of George D. Patterson,
b. 3 Jun 1886 in Knightsville, IN. His birth certificate lists his parents
as George Patterson and Catherine Robinson. A family record list his
parents as David and Kate. I have a postcard written to his mother
addressed to Kate Allen.
The family record lists his siblings as Bill, Dove (maybe Dave), Joseph,
and Harry.
