The above link might help answer your questions concerning Continental
Car-Na-Var.
"The petitioner is an Indiana corporation doing an interstate business; its
principal office and manufacturing plant are located at Brazil, Indiana, and
it is the `world's largest manufacturer specializing in floor treatments for
large areas.' At all times since July 1, 1941, and for several years prior
thereto, the petitioner has been represented in this state by W. D. Estep, a
Washington resident, under a `Contractor's Agreement' (Exhibit A) made and
entered into by the parties thereto on the seventh day of April 1937. The
petitioner and Estep, hereinafter referred to as the company and contractor,
respectively, continually performed their respective covenants in accordance
with the said agreement during the period covered by the assessment.

they probably made tile pipe.. the Arketex a factory about that same time
made tile pipe like they used for sewer pipe and they also made blocks
tile blocks. Carnavar was a little before the Arketex but it was in
operation in the late 1970's.

Andersons! Thanks for the info. on William Henly Anderson and Mary
Killion . At this time I don`t see any connection with them and my
Grandmother Clara Belle Anderson Courtney.Thank You Tom
Some of the older people on this list may know something about this company.
My father,Jay Fish, started working for them (the plant was west of Brazil
as I recall) in the 1930's as their chief chemist, then was gone from
1941-1946 as an Army major. In 1939 he married my mother, a Brazil native,
Rosemary Criss. He came back, worked for them for a few years, then left
to start his own business rather than move to California, at least I think
that is what happened. I would like to know what this company did - what
they manufactured. The only internet reference I could find on it was a
lawsuit in the 1940's. In the1950's, when my parents would drive from Terre
Haute to Brazil, I remember seeing the empty plant, but I really don't
recall how close to Brazil it was. It was on the south side of Highway 40.
My father died in September, and I realized that I never knew what this
company did, and it's such an unusual name, too. If any of you have parents
in Brazil who worked for this company and know what they did, I would like
to hear from you. My next step would be to see if the Brazil Public Library
has any information, but I might get some answers from this list. Thanks....

Muriel,
I am wondering if you have any
more information on the family of Mary
Ann Killion? Maybe her siblings, etc.
I am not related to the Killions that I
know of except by William Jasper Killion
marrying Frances Muncy. Frances Muncy
was some kind of cousin of mine and
all their descendants would also be.
Would be nice if you wanted
to trade any information.
Harold Wayne Green, greenealogy(a)juno.com
I am sure that she is because the both came from Ontario Canada, and the
parents of Eliza Fuller Mosteller lived next door to Hannah and J.R. Smith
in Clay Co., Posey Twnsp. 1850 Census. (go have a look)
I have not yet been able to determine if James was a nephew or what. On
the marraige license it is listed to James Fuller and Leticia(? spelling)
Crabb but on the census is Louisa so I am not sure if the couple is the
same. However, the man's age is approx the same and the location of birth
the same. I need to get som death certificates there to determine if it is
the same couple and get that documented.
I gave so many loose ends that it is hard to get them all done. What I
need to do is spend a week in Vigo Co., IN and get some of this stuff
documented. I don't want to make too many mistakes. I keep telling myself
that after the first of the year I will be able to do some of this stuff,
but I believe that is what I said last year. Maybe I will put David Lewis
to work on this one.
Debbie and John are moving to Minnesota the first of Dec. They have sold
their townhouse, and have two bids on their home north of Waldorf,
Maryland. Neither will leave them with a lot to purchase another home.
They really need a good offer on their property. With Jess & Sarah divided
about moving, it keeps the pressure very keen on Debs. Keep them in your
prayers. Muriel

Information
Welcome! This is the former Rootsweb List, INCLAY. This group will be discussing the history and genealogy of Clay County, Indiana and its surrounding region.
