Kenny,
This is Janet, and we talked recently about the Brandts and Dewitts. You
wondered if my Zipp/Zipf might be related to your Zix.
In doing more research I have come across some Zix, that are related through
the Brandts. I found this on
Ancestry.com thru Rogers family file2 and from
Louie Brandt. Louie is the grandson of Louis Phillip Brandt, which is the
brother of Eva and my ggrandmother Louisa. Eva was the daughter-in-law of
Helene (Zix) Groskurd. See info below.
Charles "Karl" Zix, born 1799 Baden Germany, married Katarina
"Catherine"
Braunagel 1824. She was born 1799 Baden, Germany. They had seven children,
all born in Baden, Germany. They are Joseph 1825, Helena 1828, Wilhelmina
1830, Matthew"Mathias" 1834, Walburga (female) 1836, Victoria 1839 and Maria
Anna(Mary Ann) 1843. They immigrated May 29, 1848 from Le Havre, France to
New York aboard the ship Far West. The ship manifest says they were born in
France, but the census' say Baden.
Their daughter, Helene above, married Bruno Groskurd, their son John George
Groskurd married Eva Brandt, which was my great-grandmothers sister.
Joseph Zix above, married Genevieve Buchbunder, b: 1825. They had nine
children, Elizabeth 1850, Michael 1852, Joseph 1855, John 1857, Herman 1859,
Charles "Karl" 1860, George 1862, Josephine 1864 and August 1867. All
children born in Adams, Ripley Co. IN.
Michael Zix above, (Josephs son) married Julia Susanna Risch, b: 1856 IN.
They had eight children.
Catherine 1880, Julia 1882, Marie 1884, Florence 1886, Charles 1888, Matilda
1892, Edward Joseph 1894 and Clarence 1897. The first 5 children were born
in New Alsace, IN and the last three were born in Cincinnati, Clermont, OH.
As to the Zipp/Zipf and Zix connection, Margaret Zipp/Zipf (my
gggrandmother) was the mother-in-law of John George Groskurd, whose mother
was Helene Zix Groskurd.
Another piece of info I received from Louie Brandt, was that Margaret
Zipp/Zipf mothers maiden name was Braunagel. The same name as Katarina,
above who married Charles "Karl" Zix. Maybe, Katarina and Margarets mother
were sisters.
So far, This is the information I have on Zipp/Zipf, Brandt and Zix. Do any
of these names sound familiar?
Thanks,
Janet (Berry) Brown

Janet,
We have spoke before in relation to the Brandt's and Dewitt's. I'm almost
curious if your Zipf/ Zipp aren't related to my Zix....? Perhaps one of us
has the wrong spelling. Anyhow, not sure if you have seen the following
but
this is a listing for Kern Cemetery taken in 1999. Perhaps not the info we
would like to see but it's a start.

Let me know if I can be of more assistance.
