I normally don't do this, but so many of us have had ancestors come thru
Missouri I felt it should be passed on. My husband's family has been in
Sullivan Co. Mo. since the 1870's, and there is still family there today.

$1,500.00 REWARD
For information leading to the arrest and conviction
Of the "Person or Persons" responsible for the destruction of the headstones
at the Hoover Cemetery, in Sullivan Co., Mo. This happened sometime between
the Afternoon of Saturday, August 7, 1999 and the evening of Friday, August
13, 1999. The party collecting the REWARD can in no way be involved in the
crime. Anyone having information should contact the Sullivan County
Sheriff's office in Milan, MO., phone 1-660-265-3313.

I viewed the destruction personally and could not believe my eyes. There
have been earthquakes that haven't caused this much destruction. There are
stones turned over in every row, some whole rows , some huge stones weighing
a ton or more. The smaller limestone headstones were kicked, broke off there
bases, then thrown against other stones and busted in pieces. The price tag
to repair the cemetery will no doubt be in the thousands of dollars. But
sadder yet are those stone that will be gone forever, stones of old Civil
War Vets and young children of the area's oldest ancestors. I can not think
of a punishment worthy of this crime. Cemeteries are meant for one thing, a
final resting place for our loved ones so they can take their place in
history to be remembered. Pictures can be view at the andereck/bug
address below
Donations to aid in the repair can be made by contacting Rick Thurlo
1-660-946-4250. I'm sure there are some of you out there that have folks
buried in Hoover. If any of you know of any other financial channels we can
explore, such as state aid, etc.. please let me know. This project will
need all the help it can get.
Thank you all,
