Hello,
I have Carlile/Carlisle's. Washington Co. IN boarders Clark Co, Scott Co is
just next door to Wash. Co. IN so this Philip is most likely a descendant of
your line. I thought you would like to have this info just encase these do tie
in. You should go to the Scott Co. Indiana site or write to the Scott Co.
Public Library for more info on this family. At one time I knew of a man who had
done a lot of research on the Carlisle's and his research is at the Scott Co
Library. They have within the last two years open a new Genealogy Society in
Scott Co. also. You may also want to check southern OH counties for
Carlisle's. You should know that the change in spelling is not always important and
I
do not know why the 'S' was dropped in the southern In name.
The state of OH has also been recorded as Philip's place of birth.
Philip was the second child born to John Carlile & Emily Zaring. Their first
child was either born on June 15, 1844, or died on that date - only one date
is listed on the tombstone with the word, "Infant" Phillip was oldest of nine
children. Phillip S. and Sarah C. Hobson married shortly after the end of
the Civil War. they had either ten or eleven children. Sarah and Philip's
father, John died three days apart in 1908.

On May 21, 1864 at the age of 18, he in-listed to serve in the Civil War for
100 days, being a member Co. F. 139th Regiment Indiana Volunteers and he was
honorably discharged Sept 29, 1864. He re-enlisted Jan. 27, 1865 for one year
or the duration of the war, this time being a member of Co. H. 144th Indiana
Volunteers. He was honorably discharged Aug. 5 1865.
He united with the M. E, Church 1866 at the old Carlile school house in
Finley township, later moving his membership to the Mt. Pleasant class and later to
Little York where he remained a member until death. He was a loyal member of
the York lodge F. & A. M. and of the G. A. R lodge.
He was united in marriage to Sarah C. Hobson at Little York, IN on the 14th
day of June 1868.
To this union were born eleven children, two of whom, with their mother,

Griffith, Mrs. Frank Hurst, Mrs. J. G. Reid, Mrs. Lawrence Perrin and Mrs. Gus
