I have never been able to find how, or record of,
Mathew McAfee, owning a piece of land in Lot 74 Of the
Clark Grants. He was a Rev War veteran, but served
with the 8th Penn Line from Westmoreland Co Penn, and
moved to Clark Co Indiana Territory in 1813.
Likewise, I have never been able to find how, or
record of, James McAfee, of Harrison Co Ohio, was able
to own a piece of land in Lot 74 of the Clark Grants.
He never lived in Clark Co Indiana (territory or
state), but came all the way from Ohio to Indiana in
1829 to sell his piece to John Gibson for $50.00. He
was too young to have served in Rev War or with Clark,
and his supposed father, James McAfee Sr, never
served.
The Huckleberry "boys" handled Mathew McAfees small
poor estate, when he died in 1823, and it was still
dragging out in 1832, WITH NO REAL DETAILS FOUND, by
me. Of course I do not know Clark Co, the records
still left, just what and where to look, etc., etc.??
This James McAfee, with no known or recorded records
found, as to any connection to the Mathew McAfee,
sells his own land in 1829 (about 6 years after Mathew
McAfee dies), - - - - "to John Gibson - - - - said
piece of land in Lot 74, - - - Illinois or Clark
Grants,- - - adjoining the lands of said John Gibson,
Martin Huckleberry, and others, NONE BY THE MATHEW
MCAFEE IMPROVEMENTS, - - - etc"
Mathew McAfee had remarried in 1819, to Polly Nogal,
but was "alone" in 1820, after recovering from a
stroke. Do not know if she died, or what? Seems to be
only snatches of entrys; or at least found by me. I
think Mathew deserves better.
Will appreciate all help.
Thank you. Respectfully. Dick
