Hi Jim-
I didn't see any replies to this, so I'll answer and hope that what I have
to say will be helpful, since I haven't been local to the area for nearly
20 years, although I visit every year. The Jeffersonville Public Library
has a good local resource room with census indices, local genealogies, etc.
a copier and a microfilm reader are handy. You may want to consider the
nearby Louisville Free Public Library across the river in KY, and/or the
Floyd County Public Library. Both also have local collections and both are
bigger than the Jeff one.
The Jeffersonville Public Library is very close to the Clark County
courthouse, and both are only a few blocks from the Ohio River with
restaurants in easy walking distance. I'm not sure if any hotels/motels
are still in operation very close to that area, but one of the online
services like Mapquest should be able to help with that. The Galt House in
Louisville is immediately across the river, and is a slightly upscale
hotel. I've never stayed there, but I've eaten in the restaurant, which is
very nice. There is a Holiday Inn in New Albany, IN, and a couple of mom
and pop type places in Jeffersonville/Clarksville, IN.
Weather wise, this should be a very pleasant time of year there. Summers
are generally very hot and humid.
Hope this helps some!
