Hi -
Likewise - I would like to know more about the Illinois Land Grants as I
have a Clark Co ancestor who purchased land which was originally granted to
the original owner via an Illinois Land Grant. But - in my case, the
information that I found identified the name of the grantee.

Hi All,
I have a copy of a deed from Clark Co., IN dated 1846 in which land is being
sold in a quit claim deed. The land is described as "a certain tract or
parcel of land situate being and lying in the county of Clark known on the map
or plan of the Elinoise grant by number two hundred twenty-seven (227) and
bounded as follows....."
I figure this is talking about the Illinois Land Grants (Elinoise), but how do
I find out who grant no. 227 was issued to. I have searched the BLO, but to
no avail.
Do you think the county would be able to tell me who the tract was granted to?
Any help appreciated.
