I've been living in the surrounding area all my life and I've been doing
genealogy for a good portion of the last decade.
The Jeffersonville Public Library has a good local resource room
with
census indices, local genealogies, etc. a copier and a microfilm
reader
are handy.
It has been at least three years since I've been to the Jeffersonville
Library (
http://jefferson.lib.in.us/). Last time I went it didn't have a
lot to offer me, but I would stop by there as you might be able to find
something.
You may want to consider the nearby Louisville Free Public Library
across
the river in KY,
If you're going over to Louisville, I'd suggest stopping by the Sons of
the American Revolution Library (
http://www.sar.org/) and possibly the
Filson Club (
http://www.filsonhistorical.org/). The SAR library is an
excellent general resource as well as being a great resource for
Revolutionary War records. The Filson Club mostly concentrates on
Kentucky Genealogies. The Louisville public library is a great general
resource too (
http://www.lfpl.org/).
and/or the Floyd County Public Library
The Floyd County Library (
http://www.nafcpl.lib.in.us/) is a great
resource for Floyd/Clark Counties. If you've had any families pass
through Harrison County, I'd suggest a trip to the Corydon Public
Library (
http://historic.shcsc.k12.in.us/library/carn.htm). The
Washington County Historical Society might be a good resource for you if
you've had families in that area
(
http://165.138.44.13/washington/wacohiso.htm).
The Jeffersonville Public Library is very close to the Clark County
courthouse, and both are only a few blocks from the Ohio River with
restaurants in easy walking distance. I'm not sure if any
hotels/motels
are still in operation very close to that area, but one of the
online
services like Mapquest should be able to help with that.
There's over a dozen restaurants within one mile of the Jeffersonville
Library
(
http://maps.yahoo.com/?&addr=211+East+Court+Ave.&csz=Jeffersonvil...
&country=us). There are also 4 hotels within a mile.
If you look, several of these libraries have online card catalogs along
with their hours/addresses and fees (where applicable).
If you have any questions, feel free to email me personally.
