For those of you in the area, the Annual Meeting of the Ladies Union Club and
the Union Cemetery Association will be tomorrow, Sunday, May 28th, at the
Prather Community House, off Highway 62, midway between Charlestown and
Jeffersonville.
There will be a pitch-in dinner at 1 P.M., followed by a business meeting at 2
P.M. Afterwards, many of the attendees drive over to Union Cemetery, which is
inside the Ammunition Plant. Union Cemetery is the largest of the ten
cemeteries inside the plant, and the only one still active.
If you'd like to join us, the Prather Community House is the old one-room
school house at what used to be the community of Prather, Indiana, on the EAST
end of Charlestown-Jeffersonville Pike, near the turn-off from Hwy. 62, EAST
of Salem-Noble Road. It is opposit Gate 5 of the Plant, but on the other side
of the RR tracks.
There are over 600 people buried at Union Cemetery, which is still active and
has a handful of burials a year. The webpage for Union Cemetery (which is in
Utica Township) can be found at:
