I am trying to help a friend with his ancestry. We have a definate on his gr.
grandfather. William Riley Sullivan, born, according to his tombstone & death
certificate, 18 Dec. 1842. I have found him on the 1900 thru 1930 census, in Polk Co.,
MO. All these censuses say he was born in Indiana. His death certificate says his father
was Robert Sullivan. The Mormon microfilm of county records show that he married in
Dallas Co., MO (joins Polk Co) on 4. Nov. 1878 to Mary Eliza LANE. I can't locate
them in 1880, or him at any time before this. I also can't locate a Robert Sullivan
with a child named William. I do locate, in Clark Co., IN, in the 1860 census, a B.R.
Sullivan family, page 110, Oregon twp, Post office New Market. He has a wife and
children, including William R. age 14. A little off, but this isn't uncommon for a
census, and even the middle initial is right. I can't locate this B.R. Sullivan
family in 1850, or 1870. In 1880, I do locate a D. R. (D.R., not B.R.) Sullivan in 1880,
and it is the same man, with a different wife, and he has 2 of the children living with
him still.
Does anyone know anything about this Sullivan family, or is anyone working on them? I
would like to find where my William Riley came from. He died here in Polk Co., MO Feb.
28, 1931. Thanks for any help.
