Subject : FW: [BURGE] Wm Burge
HI, Nancy Burge here, Still trying to identify the William Burge that was in what is now
Clarksville, IN as early as 1786. George R. Clark when he came to take up the Ill grant
stated that there were already families living there, he named them and among them was
William Burge.
James Burge, was taken by the Shawnee Indians at Clarksville IN, in 1790 and released at
the signing of the Greenville treaty in 1795. Robert Burge, (my hubby's line) was in
around that area and may have served in the war of 1812.
John Burge was declared insane and his son William took him to Monroe Co., IN to live with
him, he d. there.
Isaac Burge married Peggy Weathers in Jefferson Co., KY (right across the river from Clark
Co., IN. in 1797.
In 1796 Elizabeth Burge is listed in the Jefferson Co., KY Tax records. With a 21 year old
male living with her. Isaac gets married the next year.
Is Elizabeth the Widow of William and the mother of James, John, Robert, and Isaac, plus
some girls?
I've been tring to answer these questions for nearly 40 years. Every William that I
find that fits the time line, is either marr. to someone else and they know what happened
to him or he dies without a will to proove any of this. Any help will be appreciated.
Nancy
