Hello
Many Public Libraries offer off-site free access to databases such as Heritage Quest,
World Vital Records, and Newspaper Archives.
My local library in California does not offer any of these. However, I have family in
another state and have done extensive family history research there. I visit often and use
the library and have a library card. The Library there offers remote access to databases
of interest to Genealogists for library card holders. So from my home I can use my
library card number and access several database references of interest to Genealogy.
Newspaper Archives and Heritage Quest a just a few available.
Just thought I'd pass that info along . There may be a library in your area that
offers this free off-site reference service. Since my local library is financially
strapped and can't offer these services, I researched the libraries in California for
my local group of genealogy friends. I found many libraries in areas where they have
family and visit. It seems it is usually the bigger, more urban libraries that have the
funds to offer this service, but ya never know, you may get lucky and find this close to
home.
I recently moved to Oregon and will research my local area for this great service.
I am researching the following families in Cass and Pulaski Counties.
KEYS, STIPP, GERHART, HOLMES
Right now I am busy with the Holmes
Barb, formally from California, now in Sutherlin, Oregon
