Christian Minneman of Washington Township, Vicim of the Heat
The intense heat of last week claimed another victim Saturday in
the person of Christian Minneman, of Washington township. Mr. Minneman
was in town Saturday, and about noon left to drive to his home.
At 2 o'clock he was discovered lying along the side of the road about
three miles from this city. His horse stood near by. Undoubtedly
he had lain there sometime before discovered, as he was unconscious
when found. A neighbor was despatched for a physician, but who
came too late to give the stricken man any earthly assistance, Mr.
Minneman being dead when the doctor arrived.
Yesterday Coroner Busjahn drove out to the Minneman home and
conducted an investigation in regard to the death. He found the
deceased to have been overcome with the heat and death to have
resulted from that cause combined with heart disease.
Mr. Minneman was 77 years of age and was a highly respected and
popular resident of the county. He was one of the pioneers of this locality.
Deceased leaves a wife and three sons, two of whom., Theodore
and John, reside in this city. The funeral was held at the St.
Vincent de Paul church this morning at nine o'clock. Services for
the dead were conducted by Rev. Campion. Burial at Mt. St. Vincent.
