Hi!
I know that each state (and county) provides different info, but I haven't
found any differences in "certified" death certificates vs non-certified
types (except that I usually have to pay more $$ for the "certified" copy).
I have collected hundreds of death certificates, obits, and death notices on
my family members that I am researching. Any good genealogist will tell you
NOT to put too much faith into info provided on a death certificate.
The problem with death certificates, obits, etc. is that info is provided by
a "relative" or in a lot of cases, a hospital employee or nursing home
official. Other than the cause of death (provided by the physician) and the
place of burial, a lot of info is not very reliable.
For example:
Info for my great-grandfather's DC was completed by his oldest son. His
date of birth was incorrect, his place of birth was only listed as Denmark
and his parents' names were a "?". My uncle didn't even know his
father's
occupation.
I requested funeral records for my great-grandfather, and it included the
obituary form for submission to their local newspaper and a copy of the DC,
all with the same incorrect info. The obit didn't even list my
gr-grandfather's first wife (my great-grandmother, and the MOTHER of the
person providing the info!)
This is one of the reason's why it is important to gather as MUCH evidence
of a fact (birth, death, etc) before accepting it as "final".
Just my two cents;

Hi,
I want to reply on the death records and certified copy. What is the
difference? And is the death records kept in a different location than the
death certificate?
I have always been told if you can find the funeral records, it will have
the same information on it that would be on the death certificate, because
that is where the information comes from to make the death certificate.
Which is what the informant gave to the funeral home at that time of the
deceased and not always is it right.

Was there anything on the Death record that showed the parents?
Might not
have been on the certified copy but on the records. Some times all that
does not get on a certified copy? In 1920 there would have been and
Indiana
death records. The form has a place for parents names and I have
even
seen
parents birth location on some.
