Last weekend I finally located my gg-grandmother, Minnie Jeffries, on
the the 1920 census. Married in 1903 to James Tomlin, she was living in
Logansport City. As the film was pretty bad I was able to verify it was
the couple I was looking for, but nothing else.

Minnie's story is an interesting one, but she is an elusive person I
haven't been able to pin down. She possibly married a William Klinger in
Whitley County and had one child, Wilma Lavina Mae Klinger, in 1894 or
1895. (Wilma tended to change her age.) I may have found Minnie in 1900
in Gas City, Grant Co...she was widowed and working as a housekeeper,
had one child born and still living that was not in the same household.
She married James Tomlin in Gas City in 1903, was mentioned in her
father's obituary in 1904 and until I found her on the 1920 census --
was totally lost to the family.
Wilma grew up in the extended Jeffries family, married a Noble Co family
and left her past behind her. What little she may have known she never
shared.
I am desperate to know what happened to Minnie and James. I would be
glad to trade look-ups in the census for any information available. What
I would specifically like to find out is:
Did Minnie and James Tomlin stay in Logansport? I understand City
Directories exist until the late 20s.
If a death index exists, are Minnie or James listed?
If a date of death can be established - what is the procedure for
getting a death certificate?
Replies directly to me unless they would be of interest to the rest of
the list are fine.
