Ann married Metz (Mathias, Matthew) Schneeberger in Brownstown (Logansport)
Indiana, May 5 , 1860. The 1860 census has her as being 18 and born in
Germany.
By the 1870 census (taken June 23) she was 31 and born in Würtemberg. Ao
she would
have been born around 1840 plus or minus a few years.
By December, Metz had taken out a marriage license, but apparently did
not actually get
married. He married another woman in 1875.
What happened to Ann between the 1870 census and December of that year?
She is not listed as being buried in the family plot in St. Vincent’s
cemetery in Logansport.
She and Metz were married by a JP in Logansport. Her children were all
baptized Catholic according to the church records.
I suspect she was not Catholic and may have been buried in a different
cemetery, but I cannot find her burial anywhere.
So far, I have not found any record of her death anywhere. I am
searching the microfilms of the various Logansport papers.
Have not found evidence of a divorce or later record for Ann Sommer
Schneeberger.
Family legend has it that her family had a walnut grove in Fulton
County, the next county north
of Logansport, but we have not been able to substantiate that.
Have not found Ann in Germans to America or anywhere else.
Where did she come from and when did she come?
