What a lot of work, Debby. There WAS a cemetery in connection with the Salem
Log Church which was on 900S 400E about back in the woods I think. The
church was started in homes with ladies the teachers, then log church built
and in 1910 the brick church was built on the corner of these 3 roads. I
flourished as Methodist until the United Methodist took over back in the
late 60's.
We were greatly involved in this lovely little church. We struggled several
years but closed with great sadness. After closure, one foggy night the bell
was stolen from the belfry leaving live wires on the road! Then a man came
for the beautiful stained glass windows, was way up on the ladder which fell
knocking him into the ground! Finally the building was raised! We always
said God was so angry that this church was forced to close he couldn't
contain Himself.
The church and land went back to the Kitchell Family who donated the land as
long as there was a working religious meeting on it. The conference didn't
get the land or the building! The smaller beautiful stainglass window, after
the man fell, was redone into various types of sun chasers, etc., and given
to each member of the Kitchell family. The round belfry window was packed
and shipped to Arizona, I think, and is now in the new home of a family
member.
There was a mobile home on the land the last I through Deacon 3 years ago
this May.
I started out about the cemetery, wanting to know if you knew of it. I think
it is or was on Robinson land. They didn't go to Salem. Wonder if any signs
of this cemetery is visible?
Thanks for the memories,

My husband was born and raised and our daughter raised in Deacon and
surrounding area. I was a transplant. Ha Ha

I have also added numerous obituaries to most of the active Cass County
cemeteries I have online. I don't keep any running totals. Most of the
recent ones have been from 1977 and 1960.
It is my hope that we will be able to create more complete databases with
photographs of headstones. Submission of photos, obituaries, additions
and
corrections are welcome, as always.

I hope you find a long-lost ancestor.
Just a side note for list subscribers - I am working on an obituary
database for Ever Rest Memorial Cemetery. You may notice that the E in
Ever is a link. This will get you to that database of approximately 350
obits. It is a drop in the bucket, but that is a large cemetery and as
far
as I know nothing has been published on it.
