This is so sad---more cemetery destruction.
A year ago, the Walton IOOF and the Davis Cemeteries were both vandalized
by unthinking selfish people. I don't know if they found who did it.
I have family in both of these cemeteries and was so afraid some of mine
were damaged. I am in Texas so called the sexton of Walton. He called me
back and told me my family monuments were OK but one of our very best
friends of years ago was damaged.
I remember then Mt. Hope was open and free to all--at all hours. Then
some one went in damaged one of the statues up on the big War Memorial
off of Pleasant Hill. It cost a lot of money to repair the senseless
damage. Due to this all of the entrances are closed except for the main
ones. My aunt and uncle lived on the corner, across from the Children's
Home on Pleasant Hill. I lived with them each summer and holidays. Mt.
Hope had a very important spot in our lives. We would drive through it at
night looking at the Weeping Willows and walk through it during the day
reading names and dates. Never, did we play in it or disrespect the ones
who are there. Even today, I love to go into a cemetery, any cemetery.
I have also been reading in the Pharos-Tribune Newspaper of thievery on
Baby Walk and other sections. What on earth thrill is there in stealing
flowers, lights, or other sentimental items from GRAVES!!!!!!
If Serenity Estates is the big one in Marion my grandson has family
members buried there. I am so sorry this happened and pray the ones who
did it are found. I think a fitting punishment for those who do these
kind of things is---------work in the cemetery a full year, mowing,
repairing stones, attending funerals, maybe even digging the graves. This
would make believers out of them. Sallie Lou Morris Nelson, Texas via
