Hi Sallie, I was reading your note to Max and you said you lived down the
road from the Shanks Grocery in Deacon. Orval Shanks that owned it was my
Uncle. My mother's brother. Did you know any of the other Shanks? I just had
to write and let you know that I am related to the Shanks. Betty

Dear Max,
I am so sorry but I didn't know of your Meek family. I imagine my husband
or his parents did tho. It is a small world, isn't it?
We lived in Deacon for 22 years, from Feb 1960 until May 1982 when we
moved to Logansport on 75N east of Broadripple. Then we bought a mobile
home and put it on the 1/2 acre that we kept, in Deacon, in Nov of 1990,
I think. We lived there until I sold it 3 years ago, June 2000. My
husband, Don Nelson, passed away Jan 1999. We had been coming to the
Valley since 1984 so that Nov. my uncle/brother, Paul Morris, Onward,
brought me and my RV down. I went back and forth until 2000 staying here
longer each year.
Have you heard of the Nelson family? John Nelson use to manage the Walton
Elevator. My father-in-law, Emmett had a twin brother, Everett. The
Nelsons' all lived on 200E south of #218. That is Morgan Hill Road, isn't
it? They went to Blue Ball Church. Do you remember Shanks' Grocery on the
corner at Deacon across from the Grade School? It's gone and a house is
there. We lived in the 3rd house, counting store, on the north side of
the road. Now our mobile would be the 3rd place. My husband and our
daughter both went to Deacon. She went on in 6th grade to what use to be
Washington Twp then into Walton to Lewis Cass where she graduated. Don
graduated from Young America, me Logansport. Sallie
