Kathleen,
I was born and raised in Logansport, and my family still lives there today.
I am curious about the saloon/grocery store you mentioned in your email. I
would love to know the corner where the building stands.
Thanks,
Jae

Have you already checked out the Cass County IN GenWeb Site at: <
http://www.rootsweb.com/~incass/county.html> ? I have found it helpful in my
research. The library in Logansport has city directories and microfilm of
local newspapers, the public health department has birth and death records,
and the courthouse has marriages, probate and tax records, etc. The
historical society also has city directories and other books on the history
of the area. I found people were very helpful and friendly at all of these
places. The Mt.Hope/St. Vincent Cemetery in the city will check their
computer files for persons buried there. My brother and I visited Logansport
2 years ago, and had great success finding our grandfather -- all we had to
start was an old photo of him in front of his saloon and grocery store from
1905 that we knew was in Logansport -- and the building is still there! A
major thrill for us to stand on the corner we had only seen in the photo.
Our only "problem" was that the library had only one microfilm copying
machine which was in use by a group meeting there at the same time we were
there, so we couldn't get a copy of the obits we found. I transcribed them
by hand, but since then I carry a small tape recorder to read things aloud to
transcribe later at home. Best of luck!
