I have just received the Civil War Pension file of my
great great uncle, Michael Morrisey (This name is
spelled in a variety of ways throughout the years and
now in the family is always Morrissey). In the 1860
Census Michael and the rest of his family are farming
in Pulaski county, but by the time he is recruited in
October 1861 he is a farmer in the Logansport area.
From the information I have found on the 12th US
Infantry it was
established in the summer of 1861 and
as officers were recruited, they were sent out to
various states to recruit soldiers. The pension file
states Michael Morrisey was recruited in Logansport,
IN and then went to NY, NY to train. Does anyone have
information regarding the recruitment efforts or
suggestions where I could find this information? I
live about 6 hours away, so it would have to be via
mail. Does anyone have an ancestor who served with
this regiment? They were mainly in VA, but did fight
at Gettysburg too.
Thank you for any help.
