Oh dear...
I did it again...
FHC is Family History Center, yes.
WorldVitalRecords will be available SOON at FHCs but is not yet available most places.
You can access these free databases without having to register however for the time
frame they offer the free access: only 10 days and counting for each it's different
since it depends on when they were put online.
As to microfilms... Yes we can order microfilms and microfiches from Salt Lake but the
prices are higher than what you quoted.
Microfiches cost 15c a piece but stay there permanently, while the microfilm loans cost
$5.50 for 30 days in the center viewing.
Most of what is available in Salt Lake can be ordered.
Eventually all Family History centers will provide free access to
FootNote.com,
Heritagequest,
Godfrey.org, and a bunch of other sites.
The indexing that is going on and to which indexers from all over are invited to
participate will be available through the FamilySearch site and other societies who help
They are negotiating so all who help can benefit as well from free access in proportion
to their particpation.
If you want to go take a quick look at what it will be like go check out:
www.familysearchlabs.org
Register and wait for confirmation that you can access the site.
This is really cool! They hope to have this running by the end of the year.
Sorry for the confusion.
Do try
www.worldvitalrecords.com and click on 'new databases'. These can be
browsed and are free for the duration of the 10 days since their upload to the site (it is
listed in the back of the item)
Take care,
regine

Thank you Teri,
I am sorry I didn't mean anything but wanted to know. I have been to
Harlingen TX FHC many times. In fact, a Missionery who was on leave due to
his wife's illenss [they had been in South America] taught me how to use cp
and put my records on it. He was such a nice man and she a lovely lady. I
also Japanese Missioneries and other people there.
A friend called me on phone and helped me get the vital record site to work.
Don't know if he would want me to give his name so won't.
Sallie

Sallie: Yes, FHC does mean Family History Center. I'm a Latter
Day Saint
(Mormon( so I better know . You would indeed have to go to the nearest
FHC to look at microfilms for free. (Don't worry...they will not talk
about the religion) If the microfilm you wish to view is not in their
archives, they can order it for you...I believe it cost about $2.00 for
shipping. They have several foriegn microfilms on hand, too, if you want
to view them.

I guess I don't know what to do as I got on this site and everything I
clicked on I would have to sign up and join, nothing was free.
Is FHC Family History Center? If so a person would have to go to the
center
to look at the databases free?
I have Morris-Callaway-Reeser-McConahay- in the Cass/Miami/White areas.
