Yes -- the interurban did run south east of Logansport - The large cement ramps are still
standing on the East South River Road -- from 18th street on out. I too ad heard about it
many times as my father rode it to Logansport High School. Marj

Fitchs Glen is just east of the Georgetown road underpass that goes south and then west
to Georgetown. They built a new bridge in Georgetown a few years back. I remember seeing
pictures and reading about Fitchs Glen in our history book. Swimming might of been done
years back in Fitchs Glen where the remains of the station was. There is a nice water fall
just north of the station house. The one wall is still standing and once the trees start
to leave out it is hard to see, but very visible in the winter. Also there is a stone
quarry just east of the station house which is where the beginning of Fitchs Glenn is on
the east end, it is not not used. Of course there is another quarry west of Fitchs Glen
located at what is now France Park. it used to have the world's biggest stone crusher
which was brought over from France many years ago. And I am sure you heard about the train
that was left in the quarry when it flooded. It is now out as it was taken out soon after
the
flooding.
I am not sure about the interurban coming in from the south of town, although I know it
did. I do know where it left town on the north west side and you can still see the ramp
to get up the hill there on water street On water street is also where the canal left
town with the two crossing each other. On Washington Township school, that is where our
oldest son started school.
I listened to many stories about the interurban from Leo Rumell many years ago when I
worked with him, he knew a lot about logansport history. Oh how this town has changed and
is really changing now again.
Sorry I don't know a lot about Logansport as I am a transplant from Royal Center and
Lake Cicott area...

Is there a quarry or big pond in Fitchs Glen or in that area? Mother said
she and her aunt and uncle, Joe and Lucille Gill who were her age would go
swimming there. After awhile Mother's hair would get a red cast due to the
iron or what?
Isn't there cement pilings off 18th Street? Did in interurban cross there?
My mother-in-law Elsa Richason Nelson told me she rode the interurban from
her home in Washington Twp to Logansport High School. I forget the year. I
know the Canal is preserved and have been there a long time ago-in Delphi.
So the Towpath is Georgetown Road? Grandpa would take the Towpath on Sundays
when we went to our aunts and uncles log cabin on County Line Road. I
remember driving down between fields, too. What a wealth of memories we
have. Thanks, Sallie San Benito TX via Logansport/Deacon, IN

On the canal.... there is what is left of a station in Fitchs Glen
and
you can still see the canal which does have water in it at times.
I think and have seen pictures of where the canal crossed the Eel river in
Logansport. The foundation is still very visible.
Also the canal is preserved in Delphi and inbetween Delphi and Georgetown
the "tow path" road you can see parts of the canal yet. Around Lockport
it is very visible, around peterson hill I am thinking.

When I was little the canal was easy to see with water, etc. The last time
I
went on #24 it was all overgrown which is a shame, I think. This was about
2000. I didn't think to look into Goggle. Ha Sallie
