Hello Cass County researchers!
It was such a pretty day today, I decided to drive up
to Mt. Hope at Logansport and start shooting digital
photos. I wanted to get a feel for the time involved,
problems that might occur, etc.
I know it is going to take a tremendous amount of
hours to photograph everything and organization is key
to doing this. I have assigned myself the St.
Vincent's section(s) and took a few hundred photos
today. I will be dividing the cemetery into areas and
will assign the areas as I get volunteers. It would
be helpful for the photographer to have a partner who
can carry a notebook for jotting down notes, some
chalk for help in reading difficult stones and for
holding follage aside while photographing. Also, a
stiff nylon brush and trowel might come in handy for
uncovering small stones that are nearly buried.
Thunderstorms and showers are predicted through
Saturday, so I think Saturday is out as a photo
opportunity. Sunday is a possibility, but I won't be
able to get there until 2 p.m.
Matching them may be a challenge, since many are
barely readable. Many of the photos I started out
taking today were those of Italian immigrants and were
in Italian. That was very interesting to me.
Well, I'm going to return to loading these pix on my
pc. I will let you know when I upload an update.
