Dear Dawn, This is a wonderful program. My greatgrandmother, Dora Elizabeth
Reeser, was a Gold Star Mother. There is a Gold Star Mother Organization. I
sent her 'story' to them and they put it in their magazine.
Her son, Harley Ray Reeser, who was killed in WWI had his white marble
monument but her other 2 sons, Charley and Harry didn't.
I was able to get Uncle Charlie's in 2000 but it took 7 years to get Uncle
Harry's. It was placed in time for last Memorial Day. Rep. Chris Chocola got
his records and US Senator [from Texas] John Cornyn got his monument. Cass
County Vet Officer Larry Lowry went to Mt Hope on his lunch hour to make
sure it was there [then emailed me that it was]. Mr. DeAndrea had spent much
time working on this matter before he got sick.
Mike Nichol, Mt Hope Sexton, took a picture of Uncle Harry's beautiful white
monument that matches his brothers and emailed it to me.
I can never thank everyone for all the work and love they put into this
project for 'my' WWI Uncle Harry Reeser. This was all done through phone
calls, emails, and snail mail, not to mention prayer.
It was very important for me to finish this quest which started so long
ago-way before I was even born. To think that I here in Texas had such
support and help from those in Indiana, Washington DC and Texas is beyond
belief.
Thanks for reading this. My husband, Don Nelson, is on the CD as a Korean
War Navy Veteran having served on the USS English 696 Destroyer. They were
the gun fire help in saving the Korean people by taking them into our ships.
I am Bert and Dorothy Morris' daughter and neice of Wayne and Dorothy
Leffert. Mother thought so highly of you and your husband. Thanks for
remembering me.

Debby,
Have you heard of the Wreaths Across America program? In 1992, the
Worchester Wreath Company in Maine began donating wreaths to decorate the
over 5,000 graves at Arlington National Cemetery. Each year, school
children from Maine and veterans groups gather to complete the task.
This year marks a new beginning in the program - as the Worchester Wreat
Company is sending 6 wreaths to every state and national veterans cemetery
(one for each branch of the military and one for the POW/MIA's) and at
noon
EST on Thursday, Dec. 14th, there is a scripted ceremony that will be used
at each participating state or national veterans cemetery. The closest
state veterans cemetery to us is at the Indiana Veterans Home in West
Lafayette. The closest national veterans cemetery is in Marion. It would
be great to be able to expand this program to each county someday. We are
hoping to be able to organize an "adopt a grave" program next year at the
Indiana Veterans Home cemetery so that each grave will have a wreath -
like
Arlington Cemetery.
If you can't be at one of the cemeteries, I'd just encourage everyone to
observe a moment of silence at noon on Thursday, Dec. 14th, to remember
all
of those who won't be home for Christmas.
www.wreathsacrossamerica.org for more information and to view a beautiful
video about the Arlington ceremony.
Thanks,
