I can't tell what Cass County has or how they kept their information,
but in Elkhart Co [IN], they kept the application books by years (a
book for each year) and everyone in the County that applied that year
was in the one book dedicated to that specific year. So it helped to
know what year the couple married, otherwise you just started pulling
out books by years and looking til you found your ancestors.
If I'm remembering correctly (it's been years since I looked at those
books), the books were arranged alphabetically by surname.

Hi, Cindy and list:
Thanks, Cindy, for that info. That sounds like a great resource.
Here's
hoping Cass County was among those IN counties that started that
practice in
1890!
I am wondering if anyone on the list knows where to access this
type of
marriage application book for Cass County? Does this imply that
there is a
separate book for each town in the county, or is there one book for
the
entire county? I am presuming that the couple I'm researching would
be
married in Logansport; however, someone from this list who was kind
enough
to check some FHC microfilms from the Catholic Churches in that
area did not
find any record of my couple's marriage (for Emma CARLE and John
BROWN--I
didn't even know about Wm CARLE and Maggie RISBERGER until I found
it
yesterday online, and being married in 1867, their info wouldn't be
in such
a book). Would it be best to send for copies of the marriage certs
first,
and then use the info from that to find out which application book
to look
at?
This is a brand new resource for me, so I'm not sure how to pursue
it. Any
advice would be appreciated.
