1840 Carroll Co. IN Absalom Carney with wife age 30/40 and 1 under 5 male and female, 2
5/10 female, 1 10/15 male, 1 15/20 female. Samuel Carney was not born until 1841.
1850 Carroll Co. IN Sophia Carney 1804/VA, Marion 1834/OH, Daniel 1827/OH, Michael
1838/IN, Saml 1841/IN, Elizabeth 1816/OH, also living in the home is Sarah Hurly age 9 and
Maggie age 5. Absalom must be dead by then as he does not show up in any census after
1840.
1860 Rossville, Clinton Co. IN I do not find Samuel listed but do find his brother Michael
1838/IN and family and his mother Sophia Carney 1805/VA living with her daughter Pleasy
and husband Michael Henry family as neighbors to Michael's family.
8/8/1862 at Rossville, Clinton Co. IN Samuel Carney joined the 4th IN Cavalry Co. I as a
private. Later in 1897 from Snohomish Co. WA he requested pension from this service.
1870 Ross Clinton Co. IN Samuel Carney age 28/IN farmer says worth $2500 and his mother

1870 Beaver Creek, Seward Co. NB Samuel C. Davis 1833/NY, Dorcas A 1835/PA, Leonor
1852/PA, Greely H. 1855/PA, Lucy J. 1856/PA, Barmond 1859/PA, Laura H 1862/IL, Carrie E.
1867/PA. This is Julia Leonora Davis parents. They are also found in 1860 census at
Coldbrook, Warren Co. IL and she is noted as Julia Davis age 8.
8/31/1873 Samuel Carney married Julia Lenora Davis at Plesent Home, NB says certificate
should be at Polk County,NB
Nellie was born in 1874 and died in 1879
Elmer was born 1876, Ethel was born 1879
1880 Red Willow, Red Willow Co., NB Samuel Carney 1842/IN farmer, parents b/OH, VA, Julia
1853/PA, Elmer 1876/NB, Ethel 1879/NB also living in the home is Daniel Swally no idea
whom he is.
Edith was born 1882 died abt 1906 she is in 1900 census in city of Snohomish
Infant born 1885 died 2 months later
1891 Samuel Carney in pension records says he and his wife Julia were separated and he did
not marry again as quoted "one was plenty for me!"
1900 I cannot find Samuel Carney in NB or WA but do find Edith 1882/NB his daughter living
in Snohomish, WA as boarder single with the Shamland family and they are not part of her
direct family.
1910 Holmes Harbor, Island Co. S. B. Carney divorced 69/IN own income also notes Union
Army
Samuel B. Carney died 5/25/1916 in Everett, WA noted as a Fisherman age 74/IN Elmer
Carney, his son, took care of the arrangements.

1880/NB, Edith 1901/WA, Harold 1902/WA (daughter of Samuel Carney)
1920 Shine, Jefferson Co. WA Elmer L. Carney 1877/NB fisherman (son of Samuel Carney)
Everett Daily Herald
Samuel B. Carney, aged 74 died last evening at the home of his daughter, Mrs. B.C.
Stevens, 2924 Maple street. The deceased, also leaves a son E. L. Carney of this city. He
was a member of the First Indiana cavalry for four years and saw active service in the
Civil war. The funeral services will be held at A.R. Maulsby's chapel at 2 o'clock
Sunday afternoon and will be in charge of the local G.A.R. and all members of the G.A.R.
are expected to attend. Interment will be in Evergreen cemetery.
