This thread is fascinating.
The Jüngst family can be traced back to the year 1399 in Germany. Being a descendant
myself, I am trying to keep track of all the branches. Several members of the family
emigrated to North America. There the name changed to Jengst, Juengst, Jungst, Yeingst,
Yengst, Yiengst and Yingst.
The only person who seems to match your John H. Yiengst is Henry Yengst, b. 1835, son of
George Yengst and Sarah Achi who lived in Lebanon Co., PA. After his birth, nothing is
known about Henry Yengst.
It was a common habit in the region where the Jüngst family came from to name their male
children Johann (or John) NN.. Johann was the name of the ruler of that region which is
still called Johannland today. As everybody's first given name was Johann, they used
to be called by their second given name (NN.), so John H. Yiengst and Henry Yengst could
be the same person.
George Yengst was the grandson of Johann Henrich Jüngst who emigrated from Germany to
Pennsylvania in 1766.
Can anybody confirm that John H. Yiengst is indeed George Yengst's son Henry? If that
is true, he and his family can be linked to the big Jüngst family tree (more than 11,000
persons).
Greetings from Germany
