Coming to this conversation late; however, perhaps what I can add will help someone. A
photo of Peter's grave stone can be seen at
findagrave.com. There are three photos,
and one is particularly easy to read. it says this: PETER MENTZER // Born in Lancaster
Co., Pa // DIED // Jan 28 1853 // AGED // 47 ys 8 ms 2 ds.
Burial is in "Beard Cemetery," in Owasco, Carroll County, Indiana.
More important is the burial location and the graves next to it. It is a small cemetery,
only 85 known burials. There are three burials near each other, arranged in a row, side
by side. They are (1st) Peter Mentzer (1805-1853); (2nd) Frances A., wife of Alexander
Morrow (1803-1875); and (3rd) John McCouch (1806-1874).
I have worked the genealogies of the folks in that cemetery for many years. It is my
conclusion that the "Frances" buried next to Peter was his wife, that several
years after Peter died, she married Alexander Morrow, himself a widower. And I have
concluded that the John McCouch buried on the other side of Frances was Frances'
brother. My conclusion is that the mother of both Frances and John was Rachel McCouch who
was born about 1777 in Ireland.
