Regarding Patrick Roach from Ireland via Canada:
There are at least two distinct ROACH families in the area.
The other one stems from Virginia, Wm being the early settler.
It's easy enough to sort them out with a little census work, showing birthplaces.
Thanks for the note.
I had managed to figure out sometime ago that there had to have been at
least two groups of Roach family there, but was still puzzled by the
details. I came across Roach family who were there before Patrick Roach
and family arrived in Delphi from Canada in 1865. The question, the
possibility that has been hanging around in my mind had been whether or
not, perhaps, they were related, perhaps a brother of Patrick's there or
something, and they regrouped in Delphi.
They had lived in Canada for close to a quarter century (still haven't
pinned everything down), and I've never been able to figure out what
prompted them to make the rather long trek to move from Pickering
(Toronto area) to Delphi, Indiana, of all places.
William Roach is one of the many duplicated names in my family tree, and
I had been puzzled by one I had found, found in a photo on the Carroll
County museum website, of the house of "Will Roach- 'The Iceman'". His
father was James Roach, and research turned up that his birthplace was
Ohio, born before Patrick Roach was born in Ireland, so it seemed likely
that these people were a different family. So there was ANOTHER William
Roach in Delphi to confuse things added to the father and son William
Roaches that ARE my family (William M. Roach, brother of my great
grandfather Edmon, and his son William A., later the secretary of state
of the state of Indiana).
