Att. Doris,
I'm interested in the Hoff male child you mentioned below as being adopted
from an orphanage. I'm assuming this took place in Indiana? Do you know
what county and/or orphanage this adoption had taken place? What were the
names of the couple who had adopted the Hoff child? I would like to follow
up on this. I have John Emanuel Hoff b. abt. 1870 who wrote in a letter
that he had no home after his mother (Matilda Dunbar) died 1873. His sister
was Emma Elnora (Hoff) (Breneman) Harter.
YOU SENT:
I have a picture my aunt gave me of some of my fathers family. There is a
boy who I did not know and she said his last name was Hoff....her sister
thought she could have no children so they took this boy from the orphan
home....then she did get a child....they took the boy back to the
home....my
aunt said they were saddened because the family liked him so much....that
is
all I know of him and my aunt is now deceased....
I'm also interested in Emma Elnora (Hoff) (Breneman) Harter you wrote about
below. Emma Elnora and John Emanuel were brother and sister or half. John
Emanuel mentions his sister Emma in a letter as prompting him to write
about Hoff family history. Also, listed below you have Emma's mother listed
as Mahala Goodwin, I have Matilda Dunbar, are there any other references to
Mahala Goodwin?
